Bomma Residencies

Increasing hotel occupancy through marketing & commercial content

Helping an independent hotel reposition its marketing, strengthen its online presence and attract more paying guests through commercial content and a clearer digital strategy.

Background

Bomma Residencies is an 18-room independent hotel that needed to improve its visibility, increase bookings and generate more consistent revenue.

The property had a genuine offering, but it was not being seen or presented in a way that reflected its quality. The engagement began as a request for content and grew into a broader piece of work on how the hotel marketed itself, and how consistently it showed up to the people who might book it.

The challenge

Where things stood at the start.

01

Occupancy was low.

02

Revenue was significantly below the property’s potential.

03

The hotel’s online presence did not properly showcase the experience it offered.

04

Marketing activity was inconsistent.

05

The property needed stronger visual content and a clearer marketing direction.

A neglected digital presence

The page didn’t reflect the property.

Before I became involved, the hotel’s digital presence had been largely neglected. The Instagram page consisted mainly of inconsistent promotional flyers, with no clear brand identity or content strategy. Captions were weak, visual quality varied, and there was little sign of a consistent marketing direction.

The account had also been inactive for long periods. After posting through 2023, there was a single post in January 2024 before the effort stalled again.

This weak online presence mirrored the wider business problem. Despite being an 18-room hotel, occupancy was extremely low — there were occasions when only one or two rooms were occupied.

My role went beyond producing content. I treated it as a business problem: we moved away from relying on static flyers and invested in stronger commercial photography, professional videography and a more intentional content strategy that reflected the quality of the property.

Discovery

Content alone would not solve it.

After reviewing the hotel’s situation, my conclusion was that producing better commercial content, on its own, would not meaningfully change the results. Attractive video and photography would help, but only if they sat within a clearer plan for how the hotel presented and marketed itself.

The recommendation was therefore broader than a content brief:

Strengthen the marketing strategy

Define who the hotel is for and how it should be positioned.

Invest in professional videography & photography

Give the property a visual library that reflects its actual quality.

Improve the digital presentation

Present the hotel clearly and credibly wherever guests find it.

Maintain a more active online presence

Show up consistently rather than in occasional bursts.

This was offered as business advice about how to fill rooms, not simply a proposal to produce creative assets.

My thinking

The rooms were not the problem. The way the business showed up online was.

It would have been easy to treat this as a marketing task, post more often and hope bookings followed. I did not think that would hold. A property that looks uncertain online makes people hesitate, and hesitation is expensive in hospitality. Someone choosing where to stay is really asking one quiet question. Can I trust this place with my money and my comfort.

So I reframed the goal. The work was not to make Bomma more visible. It was to make Bomma look like somewhere worth trusting, and then to keep that impression consistent enough that it held every time someone looked. Visibility without trust only spreads doubt faster.

That decided everything that followed. Before a single caption was written, I wanted the brand to look settled, the spaces to be shown honestly and well, and the path from interest to booking to feel effortless.

Strategy

Fix the impression first, then the visibility, then the booking.

I built the plan as three moves, in that order, because doing them out of order wastes money.

One · Presence

Rebuild the visual identity and the property’s story so that every touchpoint looked like the same calm, confident business.

Two · Proof

Produce real photography and film of the rooms and spaces, so guests could see exactly what they were paying for instead of guessing.

Three · Pathway

Make enquiring and booking simple and fast, so the interest the content created did not leak away before it turned into revenue.

Each move made the next one stronger. A settled presence made the proof land harder. The proof made the booking decision easier.

Process

How it came together, in practice.

I began with the brand’s visual language, the colour, type and tone that would sit underneath everything else. From there I planned and shot a full set of commercial photography and video on location, directing the spaces so they felt warm and real rather than staged.

I then set up a content system, a repeatable way of publishing that kept the feed active and consistent without depending on inspiration. Alongside it, I tightened the enquiry and booking pathway so that a message could become a confirmed stay with as little friction as possible.

Finally, I put the whole thing into a rhythm the business could keep going after I stepped back. The aim was never a burst of activity. It was a way of working that kept working.

Deliverables

The contribution, in full.

Commercial Videography

Professionally filmed video of the rooms, common areas and overall guest experience, produced to present the property accurately and attractively.

Professional Photography

A considered set of photographs across the rooms and facilities, giving the hotel a consistent, high-quality image library to draw on.

Marketing Direction

A clearer marketing direction for the property: who it speaks to, what it emphasises and how it presents itself across channels.

Content Planning

A simple, repeatable plan for what to publish and when, so the presence stayed consistent rather than sporadic.

Online Presence Support

Ongoing support keeping the channels active and current, so prospective guests reliably found an up-to-date, credible presence.

Creative Consultation

Guidance on how the material was actually used, in listings, on social channels and in direct enquiries, so the content served the commercial goal.

Evidence

Commercial video from the property.

A selection of the commercial clips produced for the hotel.

Outcome

What followed the change.

Higher

Occupancy rose and stayed consistently higher.

Multiplied

Monthly revenue grew to several times what it was before.

Busier

The hotel became consistently busier and attracted more guests.

These results followed the implementation of the revised marketing approach and the commercial content taken together, not any single activity. The videography and photography contributed because they sat within a clearer marketing direction and a more consistent presence; it was the combination, and its sustained execution, that moved the numbers.

Reflection

Good marketing is not simply the production of attractive visuals.

This engagement reinforced that idea. The content mattered, but it mattered because it supported a defined business objective: filling rooms. The same material, produced without that direction, tends to look good and achieve little.

The value here came from treating the work as a commercial problem first and a creative one second. Commercial content is at its most effective when it is in service of a clear goal.

Lessons learned

What I took from this one.

Trust is built before it is asked for. Most of the growth came not from saying more, but from removing every small reason to doubt. Consistency did more than cleverness.

Proof outperforms persuasion. The moment guests could actually see the rooms, the conversation changed. Showing honestly beat describing well.

A system outlasts a campaign. The results held because the business was left with a way of working, not only a set of good looking posts. That is the part I care about most.
